Main Feature
Terence Butler joined the British Army as a Drummer Boy in the 30th Regiment of Foot in Ireland in 1854. The native of County Cork spent time in Crimea, Gibraltar, Ireland, Halifax and Montreal. While in Montreal, Terence met and married Margaret Kelly, the daughter of Irish immigrants. He left the army as a Drum Major in 1868 and spent the remainder of his life in Montreal. The origins of the Butler family have, so far, been elusive but traces, yet to be confirmed, may have been found in Innishannon and Schull in County Cork.
